Handle Your Technology Upgrades to Not Make Them a Major Distraction

We often discuss how we can help you make your business processes more efficient, but we want to refocus on how you can implement these solutions through the use of digital technologies and transformation. How does new technology affect your staff, and what can you do to ensure that these new tools aren’t impacting your employees in unforeseen ways?

Are Your Team Members Annoyed by the Technologies They Use?

Here’s the thing: piling on new technologies and expecting your employees to keep up is only going to burden them and put undue pressure on them.

At first glance, new technology might seem like an excellent way to improve operations, but when employees are suddenly forced to use a new tool that they don’t see the value in, it can be a detriment to productivity, among other things. Here are some examples:

  • Disengagement from one’s tasks
  • Lost productivity due to lack of familiarity
  • Frustration and discontent
  • Accelerated burnout

It’s clear that none of these are welcome in the office environment. Technology, when implemented improperly, can make people feel like they are not valued as employees. Automation is the perfect example of this; it might do the job of someone else and do it more effectively, and therefore it could be seen as a threat to their job.

It doesn’t have to be like this, though.

Used Correctly, Technology Can Enhance the Workplace Experience

If you implement your technology correctly, then your IT will be seen by your staff as a massive benefit. It’s just a matter of framing it in the right context. As long as you introduce it to the workflow in a way that makes sense, you’ll have an easier time winning over your staff.

One example of this is automating the tasks an employee might consider their primary work responsibility. It makes sense to eliminate time-consuming tasks from someone’s schedule so they can focus on more productive uses of their time, perhaps more skill-based tasks. This helps to boost productivity and employee satisfaction.

You should ask a couple of questions about automation solutions before you decide to implement them. For example, what pain points are you trying to solve through the use of these solutions? What are the short and long-term returns

on investment for implementing these solutions?
